About MEC Prep

MEC PREP

One Student at a Time

Mapleton Early Career Prep High School (MEC Prep) is based on Big Picture model philosophies. Students of all levels experience an environment that balances traditional classes, independent projects, real-world learning through professional internships, and access to college courses. By staying with the same advisor and a small advisory for two-year loops, students participate in a strong culture of high standards, accountability, and support. MEC Prep students learn to become problem-solvers, lifelong learners, and cooperative members of the community, preparing them for college and careers.

Vision Statement

We are an inclusive community working to find our voice, realize our potential, and positively impact our world in the courageous pursuit of our dreams.

School Culture

Relationships: By staying with the same advisor and advisory for two years, students participate in a strong culture of high standards, accountability, and support.  Learning Through Interests further creates meaningful relationships between students and adult mentors focusing on academic success, professional expectations, and preparation for college and career.

Pick Me Up: Every Monday morning, the entire school gathers for a student-led community meeting called a Pick Me Up (PMU). Almost entirely student-led, PMU is a time for the student body to come together, hear and make announcements, and get to know each other better. Students, mentors, and visitors may give short presentations that help students explore and present their interests. Sometimes we do whole-school activities, and other times we have friendly competitions. We focus on celebrating student and community achievements. Regardless of the format, PMU helps build community, connection, and shared excitement about learning in our school.
